Many early pioneers bearing the name Bell settled in New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Some came directly from Scotland and others came from northern England and southern Ireland. John Bell (b.1679) was the son of Matthew Bell. He was born in Ireland and married Elizabeth Todd in 1712. He came to America in 1719 and settled in Andover, New Hampshire.
